Abstract

888,536. Cables. EXPRESS LIFT CO. Ltd. Jan. 14, 1960 [March 16, 1959], No. 9004/59. Class 36. A flexible cable, particularly for use as a trailing cable in lift shafts, comprises a pair of cores 1, 2, e.g. of textile material, each having a plurality of stranded conductors 3, 4 laid helically in grooves around the cores, the conductors around core 1 being laid in the opposite hand to those around core 2 to counteract any tendency of the cable to twist or unwind. The stranded conductors preferably are also laid so that, individually, they untwist in the opposite sense to that of their group. The conductors are insulated, e.g. with polychloroprene 5, and the group wrapped with textile braiding 6, textile packing 7 being used for inter-conductor and inter-core filling and a proofed textile tape 8 and polychloroprene sheath applied overall. A steel wire may be incorporated in the assembly or a few strands of high tensile wire incorporated in the conductors.
