764,056. Cables. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. Jan. 28, 1955 [Jan. 29, 1954], No. 2713/55. Class 36. In a carrier - frequency telecommunication cable comprising a plurality of cores 1 ... 8 in the form of twisted pairs or quads, the cores are arranged in pairs, one each side of a reference core 1, at each point along the cable the lay of each core is different from that of the adjacent cores in the same layer, and the lays of at least the pairs of cores 2 and 8, 3 and 7, 4 and 6, vary in sections along the length of the cable, sections of one core in each pair having the same lays as sections of the other core in that pair but the sections in one core of each pair being staggered relative to the corresponding sections in the other core of that pair, and the mean lays of at least the pairs of cores being substantially the same. For example, the reference core 1 may have a continuous mean length of lay a. The core 2 may consist of successive sections having lengths of lay b, b<SP>1</SP>, b, b<SP>1</SP>, the core 8 then consisting of successive sections having lengths of lay b<SP>1</SP>, b, b<SP>1</SP>, b. The pairs 3 and 7, 4 and 6 are correspondingly constructed but with different lengths of lay. The core 5 may also be regarded as a reference core and have a continuous mean length of lay which is different from that of quad 1.
