Abstract

887,071. Differential gears. NAPIER & SON Ltd., D. March 18, 1960 [March 20, 1959], No. 9845/59. Class 80 (2). A differential gear between an input (or output) shaft 13 and two coaxial output (or input) shafts 11, 12 which rotate in opposite directions comprises planet pinions 17, 25 carried by the shafts 11 and 12, respectively, the former pinion 17 meshing an input sun gear 15 whilst the latter 25 meshes a fixed reaction sun 22, and both pinions mesh a common floating ring gear 33. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the pinion 17 meshes the reaction sun whilst the pinion 25 meshes the input sun. The gears may have helical teeth and the gear may be combined with other gearing.
