Abstract

886,397. Feeding-apparatus for carding-engines. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. Dec. 17, 1958 [Dec. 31, 1957], No. 40457/57. Class 120(1) [Also in Group XXX] Fibres to be fed to a carding machine are received at the head of a vertical shoot from which they are discharged between travelling surfaces at which the fibres form a sheet which is diverted from a vertical to a horizontal path leading to the taker-in. Fibres from a hopper feeder 10 are conveyed to a scutcher type beater 12 then by a pneumatic trunk 13 to a cage condenser 14 and the compacted material is deposited on a lattice 15 which discharges into a delivery shoot 16. From the shoot 16, the fibres are passed by a lattice or apron 17 and roller 171 to a carding- engine feed plate 18 and a taker-in feed roller 181. Automatic mechanism may be provided for controlling the speed of the taker-in feed roller 181 to compensate long-term variations in thickness of the card sliver output. The shoot 16 may have vibratory walls to facilitate passage of the fibres. A tandem arrangement of carding- engines may be supplied from the lattice 15, as by a further lattice 21.
