988, 594. Preparing fibres for spinning. NIHON SPINDLE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd., and NITTO BOSEKI CO. Ltd. Jan 22, 1962 [Jan. 25, 1961], No. 2220/62. Headings D1F and D1N. Pneumatic means for feeding fibres to carding machines consists of a main duct, a plurality of branch ducts, at least one feeding box attached to each branch duct and associated with a carding machine and means for returning excess material from the branch ducts to the main duct and back to a mixing and scutching means. Laps of fibres issueing from a scutcher A are severed at B by air jets for passage throuth the main duct C from which the branch ducts C<SP>11</SP> are supplied through receiving means or hoppers D, D<SP>1</SP> wthin which are mounted controlling plates 12 associated with a swinging rake 14 and controlled by photoelectric or mechanical means. A resisting block 7 located at the entrance to the receiving means D, D<SP>1</SP> from the duct C ensures that air and fibres flow into a hopper 2 and has associated with it a screen 8 intermittently cleared of fibres by air jets from a nozzle 9 controlled by an electromagnetic valve. Before passing into the branch ducts C<SP>11</SP> further division of fibre masses is effected by air jets from a nozzle 20. Immediate fibre supply to the carding machines is from feeding boxes H followed by beater rollers, suction rollers and feed rollers as described in Specification 988,593.
