973,662. Preparing fibres for spinning. DEUTSCHE SPINNEREIMASCHINENBAU INGOLSTADT NIEDERLASSUNG DER SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK A. G. Jan. 30, 1962 [May 25, 1961], No. 3419/62. Heading D1N. Fibre feeding apparatus has a conveyer belt in a delivery channel that is arranged laterally of the inlets of downwardly inclined feed shafts and cross-conveying means in the form of nozzles arranged adjacent to each inlet in order to move fibres toward the inlets transversely to the movement of the belt. When supplying fibres from a scutcher to a battery of carding machines, the fibres are carried in an air current to a condenser drum from which they are deposited by a brush on to the belt 8 that conveys the fibres along the inlets of a series of vertical shafts 10, there being one shaft 10 for each carding machine 12. Blowing nozzles 9, say three per shaft, are arranged to blow fibres from the belt 8 into each shaft according to the level of fibres in the shaft, photoelectric cells 14 being provided to initiate signals relative to the level of fibres for control of a valve 16. When nozzles 9 are in operation pivoted screens 13 cut off the area of the belt 8 adjacent the shaft 10 to prevent escape of air along the belt. Specification 845,817 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 910,760.
