Abstract

845,110. Diaphragm pumps ; compressors. HENDERSON, W. M. April 10, 1957 [Oct. 18, 1956], No. 31802/56. Classes 8(1) and 102(1). [Also in Group XXIX] A diaphragm pump or compressor comprises a cylindrical body 10 formed with a partition 17 providing a pumping chamber 16 and an outlet chamber 15. An inlet pipe 11 leads into the body and is provided with an inlet flap valve 13, while a port 18 in the partition is provided with an outlet flap valve 19. A cover 31 closes one end of the body and is in sealing engagement with the partition while the removal of this cover exposes both sides of the outlet valve. The cover may be secured by a member 36 provided with a cam or cams 34 or the cover may be screwed to the body. A diaphragm 21 is clamped between the other end of the body 10 and a housing 22 which is slotted at 23 to allow passage of an acuating lever 24. The pump is suitable for pumping water from lifeboats, and various shapes of actuating levers are described which provide ease of pumping depending upon the mounting of the pump. The pump may be actuated by weights and the movement of the boat.
