883,964. Surgical traction. ORTHOPEDIC FRAME CO. Aug. 25, 1959 [Nov. 20, 1958], No. 29051/59. Class 81 (2). [Also in Group XIV] In a hospital bed construction in which the mattress support lies within two right circular rotatable rings, the bed may be rotated to any inclination or lowered at one end to extend chordally across the rings. As shown, rings 14 are mounted by means of rollers 96 and others (Fig. 10, not shown) on the arms 87 of a U- shaped base having castors 89. The rings are rigidly connected together by members 17a- 17d and 78 and are rotated by rubber-tyred wheels through a worm drive and belt transmission (Fig. 11, not shown) by a reversible electric motor (Figs. 6 and 9, not shown) controlled by bedside switches on cable 142. Traction is applied by weight 184 through pulley 191 and head sling 182. The tension may be relieved when desired by allowing the weight to rest on the floor. In another arrangement (Fig. 4, not shown) pulleys are positioned so that the weight swings clear at the side of the rings when the head of the bed is tilted upwardly.
