Abstract
1,059,100. Hospital beds, -on and -off castors. C. R. GONZALEZ. June 18, 1964 [June 18, 1963], No. 25270/64. Headings A4J and A4U. A bed 2 rotatable about its longitudinal axis is coupled to a metal structure 1 by pins 6 and 31 passing through one of a series of holes in the end of the bed so that the radius of rotation may be varied. The pin 6 is also connected to the centre of a gear wheel 4 which, when driven by one of two motors 13 via a flywheel 9 and pinions 12, 14, rotates the bed 2 about the axes of the pins 6 and 31. The flywheel 9 has a counterweight 10 coupled to it to balance the load of the bed. Alternatively, Fig. 8, the pin 6 may be connected to a hand wheel 51 having peripheral toothing meshing with a worm 53 driven by motors 61a, 61b. The motors 61a, 61b and worm 53 may be lowered to disengage the hand wheel and allow it to be rotated manually. The bed 2, which comprises a lower spring mattress frame, and padded sides and end boards, is. disconnectible by latches and bolts and may have an upper mattress frame. The sides 3 may also be folded down level with the lower mattress frame. The whole metal structure 1 is supported on arcuate supports 32A for rocking movement or on adjustable legs 19 for transportation. The height and inclination of the structure is varied by lowering or raising the legs 19 by an adjustable cable 21 or a worm or pinion, and engaging pins 23 on the legs 19 in holes 22 in a semi-circular support 16.
