Abstract

883,639. Reversing gearing. FALK CORPORATION. May 23, 1958 [Sept. 3, 1957], No. 16645/58. Class 80 (2). Marine reduction and reversing gearing comprises a driving shaft 8, Fig. 5, with a pinion 13 meshing with a gear 14 on a parallel shaft 15. a gear 16 in mesh with gear 14 to drive another parallel shaft 17 in the opposite direction to shaft 15, and pinions 21, 24 in mesh with a gear 22 on a driven shaft P which are alternatively clutched to shafts 15 and 17 respectively to provide forward or reverse drive. Pinions 21, 24 are provided with hollow shafts 18, 23, Fig. 4, through which hollow quill shafts 25 extend to be coupled by flanges 28 with flanges 29, Fig. 5, of the shafts 15, 17. The shafts 25 also carry on each side of the pinions 21, 24 clutch spiders 30, 36 supporting mountings 32, 33 and 38, 40 respectively for inflatable clutch members 45 co-operating with clutch drums 43 secured at each side of the pinions 21, 24. The clutch members 45 for each pinion are adapted to be operated simultaneously by air pressure admitted from pipes 48.
