881,260. Disc brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Dec. 11, 1959, No. 42236/59. Addition to 811,525. Class 103 (1). A fluid pressure operated disc brake includes a disc 10 mounted between friction pads 25, a plurality of cylinders 19, 20 associated with one of the pads provides a resultant thrust equal to the thrust provided by a single cylinder 21 associated with the other pad 25, but acting at a position offset along the circumference of a circle about the centre of disc 10, the offset distance being less than the internal radius of cylinder 21. The cylinders 19, 20 may be of the same or different diameters and are connected via passage 30, cylinders 19, 21 being connected via a conduit, not shown, and conduit 44 connects cylinder 21 to a source of pressure fluid. The axes of cylinders 19, 20, 21 are equidistant from, and parallel with, the disc axis and the thrust point of cylinders 19, 20 leads that of cylinder 21 in the direction of rotation of disc 10 for forward travel of a vehicle. The caliper, the supporting of pads 25, the automatic clearance adjuster and the degree of offsetting are as disclosed in the parent Specification.
