Abstract

877,375. Internal shoe-drum brakes. BENDIX CORPORATION. March 11, 1960, No. 8717/60. Class 103 (1). In an internal shoe-drum brake, relative movement between the shoes and the support plate 55 of the brake is limited by means of a coil spring 52 having a uniformly diametered coil portion 54 proportioned to fit through an opening in the shoe web 56 and provided with a large diametered portion 58 which engages the web at the drum (28, 29) side and an end portion (62) of the spring engages an anchor member 66 provided on the support plate 55 of the brake. A plurality of indentations 36 are formed at the outer periphery of the support plate which provide ledges serving to locate the brake shoes which are drawn into contact with the ledges by the coil springs 52.
