Abstract

874,464. Fluid flowmeters. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. May 31, 1960 [June 19, 1959], No. 21219/59. Class 69 (1). [Also in Group XXXIV] A fluid flowmeter comprises a casing 1, with inlet and outlet ports 2 and 3, which houses a rotor 5 turning on a vertical shaft 4 with gas bearings 9, 10 and 12, 13 which provide centring and axial lift without rotating the rotor; means are also provided to determine the speed of rotation. Compressed air is fed into a manifold 27 on top of the casing 1 and thence to the bearings through holes 7 and 8. Outlets 25 are provided to prevent air pressure from building up in the casing. Rotational signals from a bar magnet 14 are received by a pick-up 15 connected to a meter 22. A flow-straightener 26 is provided below the rotor.
