Abstract

988,931. Centrifugal pumps. HAMWORTHY ENGINEERING Ltd. July 7, 1961 [Sept. 9, 1960], No. 31088/60. Heading F1C. A rotary pump for liquids or gases comprises a casing formed in two parts, one part being held rigidly and the other being rotated by a driving shaft and formed with vanes or the like for impelling fluid, and the two parts are mutually sealed by a seal and so shaped and arranged as to be separable from one another whereby the seal may be easily removed and replaced without disturbing the driving shaft. The pump casing comprises a stationary part A containing inlet and outlet branches 1, 2, and a rotary part B bolted to an end plate 3 fixed to the driving shaft 4. The fluid is impelled by vanes 5 formed on the part B. A seal 7 is provided between the parts A and B. Preferably there is provided a stationary guide member 6 secured to the outlet pipe of the part A. On removal of screws 18, the part A can be withdrawn to allow replacement of the seal 7. In a modification the inlet and outlet passages in the part A are transposed, and the impeller vanes are formed on the end plate.
