[Also in Groups XXII and XXVI] For preventing access of water to the boxes of gears and bearings of cages for rolling mills and similar machines, fluid is supplied to the boxes at a pressure above atmospheric. The fluid may be air or oil mist and air, and pressure-limiting relief valves may be provided in the casings. As shown, rolls 2, 3, 4 are driven by a driving shaft 5 through bevel gears 8 ... 11, which with roll-bearings are housed in boxes 12, 14, 17 and 9 to which the pressure-fluid is supplied by conduits 20 ... 24, or by a single conduit communicating with axial bores in the roll spindles.
