Class 120(1) The licker-in and feed roller of a carding engine are covered by a plate that extends towards the feed plate so that a fibre lap being fed closes the gap between the cover and feed plates. The cover plate may have a hinged section 16 and an adjustable edge piece 12. It may take a variety of shapes so long as the configuration is such as to permit air to escape from above the licker-in and through the fibre lap beneath the adjustable edge piece 12.
