Class 120(1) Flats 2 of a carding machine are removed from the surface of the cylinder 1 by means of a bend 4, and a separating plate 3 is situated in the space thus provided so that as the cylinder 1 rotates at high speed a suction effect is produced which sufficiently cleans each flat 2 as it is lifted off the surface of the cylinder 1. Known adjusting means may be provided on the bend 4 and the plate 3 to obtain the most advantageous effect for the material being treated.
