Abstract
867,519. Sliding clasp fasteners. RYSER, E., and VOUMARD, B. July 24, 1957, No. 23441/57. Class 44. A covered sliding clasp fastener has interlocking fastener members 1, secured in longitudinally spaced relation to opposing stringer tapes 6 to form a pair of stringers, the fastener members being symmetrical relative to the median plane of the stringers and each provided with a coupling head 2 and with integral tape engaging legs 5, wherein portions of the stringer tapes emerge from both sides of the fastener members and laterally of the coupling heads, approximately on the level of the longitudinal centre plane of the fasteners extending at right angles to the median plane of the stringers so that when the fastener is closed portions of the tape emerging from the fastener members of one stringer make contact with portions of the tape emerging from the fastener members of the other stringer. As shown in Fig. 5 the legs 5 are hookshaped and the stringer tapes 6 are made in two parts, their beaded edges 7 being engaged by the legs 5. In a modification instead of the legs 5 being initially bent to hook shape they are straight and are bent to hook shape in the attachment of the stringer tapes to the fastener members. With these straight legs the stringer tape instead of each being in two parts can be a single tape provided with central slots to receive the legs; one or more beads can be provided centrally of the tape if desired. In a further construction, Fig. 30, the fastener members are diecast directly upon the stringer tapes. In all constructions the two portions of the stringer tape emerging from the fastener members can be sewn together behind the fastener members. Where two part stringer tapes are used, clips can be used at the ends of the stringers to clamp the tape parts together.
