Abstract

866,741. Folding chairs. LAFUMA FRERES. April 3, 1959 [April 4, 1958; Oct. 27, 1958], No. 11348/59. Class 52(2). In a reclining chair in which two U-shaped canvas covered frames 1, 2 are foldable together and are pivoted to two side plates 14, foldable U-shaped leg frames 15, 16 are crossed in the unfolded position to stabilize the side plates 14. The tubular metal leg frame 16 can be swung about pivot 29 against stud 31 and frame 15 can be swung about pivot 28 through frame 16 and against a stud co-axial with stud 31 but projecting from the opposite side of plate 14. Studs 31 thus limit the spread of frames 15 and 16 in the unfolded position and maintain plates 14 stationary with respect to the leg frames. Back 1 and seat 2 portions are tiltably mounted on plates 14 by means of a channel-section connecting member 18 (Fig. 8). The latter is carried on pivot 21 and is maintained at a given angle of tilt by the engagement between friction washer 26 on bolt 24 and the sides of slot 14a in which the bolt rides. The ends of portions 1 and 2 lie in the channel section of member 18 and are secured therein by bolts 17, 19. The back portion 1 is pivotable about the bolt 19 so that it can be folded on to portion 2. Canvas 3 is laced to portions I and 2 by rubber cord 4. Arms 13 are pivoted at 10, 11 and 12. The end portions of leg frames 15 and 16 are reinforced by the insertion of an additional tube (Figs. 12, 13 not shown).
