863,559. Handle fixings. BRUCE, O. R. E. Sept. 24, 1959 [Sept. 24, 1958], No. 30581/58. Class 61. A device for connecting the shank of a tool to a handle comprises a U-shaped frame 1 having rotatably mounted therein a toothed member 2 adapted to support a handle 3, a bar 4 slidably disposed in the frame so as to be movable into or out of engagement with one or more of the teeth on the member 2 and a clamping device 7 for a tool shank 9, having a part 8 associated with the slidable bar 4 so that when the shank of the tool is engaged and clamped by the clamping member, the bar 4 is locked in engagement with one of the teeth on the member 2. As shown the bar 4 extends through and is slidable in slots 13 in the frame, nuts, split pins or other locating means being secured to its ends 17. The part 8 comprises a U-shaped bar having lugs 18 at its ends engaging the sides 12 of the frame to slide thereon at constant angle thereto, the bar 8 being spring urged into engagement with a tooth on the member 2. Bolts 21 on clips are provided in the base of the U-shaped frame the inner ends of the bolts being so disposed that on tightening they engage the shank 9 of the tool which is disposed between them and the member 8. Two or more bars in angularly disposed slides 13 may be provided.
