Abstract
862,315. Valves. CLAUSEN, M., [trading as DANFOSS VED INGENIR M. CLAUSEN]. Dec. 3, 1958 [Dec. 3, 1957], No. 39011/58. Class 135. A valve suitable for controlling hot water radiators and actuated by a temperatureresponsive element 3 or other automatic or manual means comprises a cylindrical valve member 6 coacting with a rubber-covered seat 9 and passing through a packing ring 12 which divides the valve casing into an upper chamber 7 communicating with the inlet and, through openings 11 in the valve member with the interior of the latter, and a lower chamber 8 connected with the outlet. The valve member is substantially balanced as regards inlet pressure, is urged upwardly by a spring 10, and is moved against the spring by a rod 4 of small diameter, e.g. 2 mm., and of a material of low thermal conductivity, e.g. stainless steel. A gland 14 forms an adjustable stop for the valve member and may be removed when the valve is under pressure owing to the provision of a seating in the body with which a rubber-covered sealing surface 13 of the valve member may coact. In a modification, the inlet opens to the chamber below the packing 10 and the outlet leads from a port at the bottom of the housing coaxial with the valve member. In another modification, the chambers above and below the packing 10 are connected to cold and hot water supplies respectively and the outlet for the mixture is by way of a coaxial port at the bottom of the housing. In this arrangement the temperature of the mixture is governed by controlling the hot water flow only.
