Abstract

1,025,225. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. DANFOSS A/S. March 15,1963 [March 17,1962], No. 10464/63. Heading G3P. [Also in Division F2] A thermally-responsive valve for use in a hot water heating system has a seat 5 (Fig. 2 not shown), for a main diaphragm closure-member 9 above which is a chamber 11 in communications with both the inlet 6 via diaphragm holes 12, and the outlet 7 through a central diaphragm orifice 13. The latter is controlled by an auxiliary valve 16 connected to a temperature responsive bellows 15 in a chamber 18 supplied with heating medium by a capilliary tube 17. The auxiliary valve 16 is in the form of a needle with a cone angle of less than 60 degrees. Small fluid flows are controlled entirely by the auxiliary valve, the main diaphragm valve remaining seated until such time as the flow through the orifice 13 is greater than that through the hole 12. The main and auxiliary valves may be arranged side-by-side in a common housing and actuated from a common stem. In another form the main valve may be mounted with lost-motion on the auxiliary valve stem.
