Abstract

862,158. Heating water. RICCI, S. May 9, 1958 [May 10; 1957], No. 14975/58. Class 64(1) Cold water from a pipe 7 passes, through a throttling, non-return valve 10 adjacent a drain cock 10<SP>1</SP> into a convex-ended tank in which it is heated by an electric heating element controlled by a thermostat 5. The heated water passes through a pipe 3 to a similar upper tank from which it may be drawn, thrbugh a relief valve 9 (set to a higher pressure than that of the cold supply) and pipe 8. Water may flow down through a connection 2 from the upper to the lower tank. The tanks are mounted and insulated in a case, Fig. 2 (not shown), forming an airing chamber above them and having a spring-loaded end door with apertures exposing a thermometer 12 in the upper tank and a lamp 6 which lights when the water cools in the lower tank.
