Relates to a lock of the kind comprising a twoarmed forked latch member rockable about a fixed pivot in a casing adapted to be fastened to a door and which latch member by pivotable interposition of a rockable holder carrying an actuating spring is swivelled into the open unlocked position by a two-armed operating lever. According to the invention, one arm of the latch member is articulated to the spring holder in such a way that when the operating lever is swivelled away from the door, a short lever arm of the operating lever engages one arm of the forked member and swings the latter about its pivot, so that a pivot by means of which the forked member and the holder are articulated moves from a position on one side of a deadcentre position to a position on the other side thereof. As shown, a latch member 6 is pivoted between the limbs of a channel-shaped casing 1 secured to a door 4 and is also pivoted about a pin 9 to a spring-loaded holder 8 the other end of which is pivotally and slidably connected by a pin 12. The arrangement is such that as a handle 2 is moved away from the door about a pivot 3, the handle rocks the latch member 6 out of engagement with a keeper 7 against the spring 10 of the holder 8, to cause the holder to pivot and slide on the pin 12 which then engages a slide 11 to compress the spring 10 and maintain the latch member in the open position until it is rocked by the keeper 7 as the door is re-closed. The latch member may be locked in the engaged position by a locking device 15. The lock is secured to the door by means of a plate 17 screwed to the door and having studs which co-operate with key-hole slots 19 in the base of the casing 1. The plate 17 includes a bent-up part 171 by which the plate is also screwed to the casing.
