Abstract
857,090. Thermionic cathode constructions. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 21, 1957 [Oct. 24, 1956], No. 32781/57. Class 39(1). A dispenser cathode has a porous refractory metal body 10, in or behind which is located the emissive material, and a hollow support member 15 within which is the heater 20; the two are separated by a partition 16 to prevent backward emission, the partition being of greater diameter than the support. The migration path is long enough to prevent such migration. The support member 15 may be made with a lap joint, Fig. 2 (not shown), and the support, partition, and porous member may all be welded together in a single operation. The partition may be dished, so that it makes line contact only with the porous member.
