Abstract
767,718. Thermionic cathode constructions. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Nov. 19, 1954 [Nov. 5, 1953], No. 30669/53. Class 39(1). A cathode comprises a block 3 of porous metal impregnated with emissive material, with a heater 4 parallel to and spaced from the back surface of the block, and adapted to heat it by electron bombardment ; a refractory screen 6 in good thermal contact with the said surface prevents rearward emission. The screen is preferably molybdenum, and may have a backward extension 6b, and a forward extension 6a which contains the emissive block. Instead of being a separate member, the screen may be deposited on the back of the block. Specifications 707,096 and 733,191 are referred to.
