Abstract

716,412. Thermionic cathode constructions. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 26, 1952 [Nov. 29, 1951], No. 29950/52. Class 39(1) A cylindrical dispenser cathode suitable for use in a magnetron comprises a molybdenum tube 19 having a central part of reduced diameter, so that when a porous tungsten cylinder 18 is fitted over it, a closed container is formed for the supply of alkaline earth metal compounds 21. Heavy molybderium rings 26, 27 are forced on the ends of tube 19; these are separated from the tube 18 by platinum foil 28, 29 of a relatively low melting- point metal, which is heated while under pressure by rings 26, 27 so that a diffusion weld is formed. An outer coating 30 of various specified materials is provided to increase the secondary emission effect. Alternative materials for the foil and porous cylinder are mentioned.
