Abstract

Class 72 A converter has a blast box with a smooth inner cylindrical wall adjacent the outer ring of tuyeres. As shown, a hollow element 8 has smooth inner walls and recesses 6 in the outer walls to receive chock bearing levers 3. Powder loaded air entering the blast box is given a swirling movement by means of deflectors 9 and 10. The cover 13 of the base of the blast box may be in the shape of a truncated cone (Fig. 5) with the smaller base adjacent to the central portion of the blast box devoid of tuyeres or it may be of concave shape with the concave surface directed away from the blast box to give an effect similar to that of cover 13.
