Abstract
911,696. Converters. ARBED ACIERIES REUNIES DE BURBACH-EICH-DUDELANGE S.A. June 29, 1960 [July 13, 1959], No. 22731/60. Class 72. A steel converter of the type which has a wall connecting the bottom, which may or may not be provided with tuyeres, with the dome, in which is arranged a lance for top blowing, has at least part of its bore between the trunnion axis and the dome upwardly divergent while the rest below the dome is cylindrical, as in Fig. 3, or downwardly convergent, thus making the whole of the bore below the dome upwardly divergent as in Fig. 1 (not shown). The surface of the lining surrounding the divergent part may be a surface of revolution, e.g. frusto-conical, preferably having an angle of divergence of over four degrees ; the angle may increase upwards. The refractory lining around the bore may be thicker above the trunnion axis than below.
