[Also in Group XXIV] A machine-tool comprises a power take-off connected to a drive-shaft 30 mounted in a housing 12 and having a portion 36 movable axially relatively to another portion 34 by means rotatable, by the power take-off, at a speed different from that of the drive-shaft, and a stop 150, movable in a slot in the housing for releasing a control-means 124 when the driveshaft portion has been shifted a predetermined distance. An air motor 18 rotates the shaft 30 through gearing 20, 22, 24, 26. The shaft portion 36 carries a nipple 44 carrying a chuck 40. The power take-off consists of a wormwheel 54, Fig. 2, engaging a worm 48 on the shaft 34, a ball-clutch 69, and a helical gear 74 rotating a shaft 78 carrying a pinion 80. The pinion rotates a sleeve 86 surrounding the overlapping portions of the shaft 30 and keyed to a further sleeve 90, which is rotationally connected to the shaft portion 36 by a bearing 98. The sleeve 90 is limited in its upward movement by a screwed stop 110 adjustable by a screwed sleeve 114. To feed the drill 42, nut-portions 124 engaged in slots in the housing 12 are moved into engagement with a thread 106 on the sleeve 90 by rotation of a cam-sleeve 132. The feed of the drill is limited by the stop 150, adjusted by rotation of a sleeve 142. When the sleeve 90 engages the stop 150, it pulls the sleeves 142, 132, downwardly and allows a spring 130 to press the nuts 124 into recesses in the sleeve 132, thus disengaging the feed and allowing a spring 116 to retract the drill. If excessive resistance to feed is encountered, the clutch 69 slips until the obstruction has been removed.
