962,820. Arc-rupturing in switches; switch contacts. LICENTIA PATENT-VEKWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. Jan. 13, 1961 [Jan. 18, 1960], No. 1534/61. Heading H2B. A circuit-breaker contact arrangement suitable for use in the circuit-breaker of Specification 962,819, comprises a fixed member carrying main contacts 2, 2a, an intermediate contact 4, arcing contacts 6, 6a and an arc horn 5, the flat face of the movable contact member 9 normally engaging the contacts 2, 2a, 4 when the breaker is closed. Member 9 is connected to a flexible strip so that when a short circuit occurs, electro-dynamic forces roll the member 9 about the contact 4 to disengage contacts 2, 2a and engage contacts 6, 6a with increased pressure, further movement separating the member 9 from contact 4 and finally, when the breaker latch is released, from contacts 6, 6a. During closure the arcing contacts engage first and the rolling action is reversed. The fixed and movable arcing horns and the contacts 6, 6a may be divided by slots into which project an insulating partition, Fig. 5 (not shown).
