Abstract
838,877. Electromagnetic switches. STERN, W. L. July 1, 1957 [July 17, 1956], No. 22078/56. Class 38 (5). In an electromagnetic relay including a pivoted armature 3 carrying a contact 2 for co-operation with a fixed contact 1, the part of the magnetic circuit 4 in the centre of the coil 5 comprises a magnetic cap 9 on a non-magnetic tube 8 containing a magnetic plunger 10 biased away from the cap 9 by a spring 11. On energization of the coil the plunger is moved to engage the cap before the armature 3 is attracted, the initial position of the plunger being adjustable by a screw 37. The tube 8 may be sealed by a washer 15 to enclose a viscous liquid to give a dashpot action producing a time delay and the plunger 10a (Fig. 3) may have a non-return ball valve 19, 20, 21 so as to delay the upward movement only.
