Abstract
838,254. Tips for furniture legs. WALL & LEIGH (THERMOPLASTICS) Ltd. Jan. 30, 1959 [Jan. 30, 1958], No. 3066/58. Class 134 A self levelling furniture glide comprises an attachment member 15 adapted to be secured to a furniture leg or a foot member formed of a thermoplastic and including a base portion 12 and a separate wall portion 11 secured together so as to define a housing for one end 16 of the attachment member so that the inclination of this member relative to the foot member can be varied. As shown the attachment member includes a shank portion 17 which may be a cotter or like pin or a nail or screw adapted to be driven into the furniture leg or into a plastic plug suitable for inserting into the end of a hollow leg or ferrule. The head 16 of the attachment member may be moulded round one end of the shank 17 and includes a part-spherical portion which pivots within complementary recesses 19, 21 in the wall and base portions 11, 12, and an annular flange 23 which serves as a stop to limit this pivotal movement and may also include a further annular flange 27 to assist in accurately locating the glide with respect to the furniture leg. After assembly of the glide the wall and base portions of the foot member are secured together by adhesive.
