Abstract

838,060. Coating apparatus. LEECH, C. A. Jan. 24, 1957 [Jan. 24, 1956], No. 2278/56. Class 140. Apparatus for pasting lengths of ceiling or wall paper comprises a box-like casing 3 with a removable tray 4 for holding a supply of paste resting on the base of the casing, a coating roller 8 adapted to dip into the supply of paste and transfer it to one surface of the paper 17 as this is pulled through the apparatus from a supply roll 10, and paper-guiding members such as rods 11, 12 extending across the casing and supported by its sides for holding the paper in contact with the roller 8. The roller which may be supported either by the tray or, as shown, by the casing, may have an absorbent coating as of felt or foamed rubber, latex or synthetic resin or may be either smooth or corrugated. The tray may be of metal or of wood with a detachable lining, e.g of metal for easy cleaning. The rods 11, 12 are joined by end-plates 13 and are removable from their locating slots 6, 7 in the casing as is the rod 9 for the roll of paper located in slot 5. A squeegee or doctor may be provided to remove excess paste from the coating roller or the paper and a guide roller 16 for the pasted paper facilitates hanging the paper. A detachable cover for the apparatus may be provided. The Provisional Specification states that the coating roller may be removable.
