Apparatus for dispensing paper or the like from a roll and applying an adhesive to one side thereof so that unrolled paper or the like. is drawn under tension into a plane normal to the floor or other supporting surface comprises a support for the roll of paper disposed above a trough of adhesive containing a doctor roll and guide means for the paper under which it is drawn after passing over the doctor roll, the guide means having a forward part for location close to and parallel to the surface to be papered to provide for the adhesively coated paper or the like being drawn with its coated face forwards closely along the surface to be papered. Wallpaper is drawn from a reel 7 under a guide 6a, over a coating roll 3 under a guide 11 and around a guide 12. The roll 3 is mounted to rotate in a paste trough 2 which is mounted by cross-bars 17 on a base 1. An extension 2a of the container contacts the coated surface to wipe off any excess paste. The guide 6a forms a transverse member to a container 6 and has a curved lower edge 9 contacting the paper which passes through an opening 8 in the container. The container has triangular extensions 6b which support the guide 11 and forward guide 12. The container 6 is mounted on a hinge 13 to pivot on the base and can be resiliently secured by a bolt 15. The Provisional Specification describes apparatus having a flap hinged between two triangular frame members and spaced above a doctor roll. The flap has an adjustably positioned longitudinal paper guide with an arcuate channel. The flap may be spring-biased to exert pressure on the paper. A bar is connected between the front edges of the frame to abut against the skirting of the wall to correctly align the paper.
