Class 100(2) In inking means for intaglio printing- machines, there is provided a stationary disc adjacent to and concentric with each end plate of the printing cylinder, having a diameter slightly less than the cylinder and there being a small gap between the cylinder and each disc, each disc being provided with grade plates and a side channel for the discharge of scraped-off ink, which flows axially across the gaps and into the side channels. The printing roller 3 is mounted on a shaft 2 supported in bearings in frame members 1, Fig. 1. Adjacent the cylinder end plates are ring-like discs 4, 5 each connected to a hollow stub shaft 6, Fig. 2, fixed to the frame, and a spring 19 urges the disc towards the cylinder, or the shaft bearing members may be connected to the ends of the stub shafts 6 to move with them. At each end of the cylinder there is a sheet metal wall 7, Figs. 1, 2 and 3, connected to and encircling the shaft 6 and ending at an edge 8. A sheet metal wall 9 extends transversely of the wall 7. The circular part of the wall 9 with the lower part of the wall 7 and part of the tube 6 and disc 4 or 5 forms a rectangular-section curved channel through which ink is discharged through a fine screen into a receiver whence it is led or pumped back into the ink supply trough 20 in which the cylinder 3 rotates. The doctor blade 13 removes ink from the cylinder at a point where the cylinder is moving downwards and the ink is passed to the side channels along an axial channel formed by a member 16.
