Abstract
830,454. Road sweeping machines. LEWIN ROAD SWEEPERS Ltd. Feb. 25, 1958 [March 5, 1957], No. 7201/57. Class 107 A road sweeping machine has a gutter sweeping brush at one side, the mounting of which comprises a parallelogram linkage having two vertical sides, one of the vertical sides being attached to the machine and pivoted about a vertical axis, the other side, which comprises two parts the lower of which carries the brush, being adjustable to incline its angle and that of the brush shaft to the vertical in one direction, preferably in a plane parallel to the direction of travel of the machine. As shown, the gutter sweeping brush 12 is mounted on a parallelogram linkage consisting of a vertical member 15 pivoted to the side of the machine about a vertical axis on brackets 16, two substantially horizontal members 19 and 20 each consisting of a pair of spaced parallel arms pivoted to the vertical member 15 at 21 and 22 respectively, and a further vertical member made up of two parts. One part of the further vertical member is constituted by a housing 27, pivoted at 38 to the member 20, which carries the shaft 28 supporting the brush 12 its upper end being connected to a reduction gear box 31 driven by a telescopic driving shaft, the other part of the second vertical member being formed by a casting 29 provided with a lug 30 having a screw-threaded hole through its centre. Adjustment of the vertical axis of the brush shaft 28 is accomplished by rotation of the bolt 35 which passes through the screwed boss 30 and lugs 33 and 34 welded to a plate 32 pivoted about a vertical axis on the top of gear box 31. The brush 12 is urged against the kerb by a spring-loaded device and may be raised vertically by the hydraulic ram 25. The gear box housing 31 is kept in the same orientation relative to the driving shaft by a further parallelogram linkage comprising the bottom member 20 of the main linkage and a second arm 39.
