Abstract
829,880. Propelling ships; reducing resistance. BOEHM, E. L. Feb. 17, 1956 [Feb. 17, 1955 ; June 29, 1955], No. 5034/56. Classes 113 and 114. A marine craft has a chamber located towards the front at 9 which has an inlet 7 and outlets 10. The chamber reduces the velocity of the water after entry and increases it at outlet, e.g. the chamber may be barrel shaped. The propulsion unit of the craft comprises an engine 1 driving a turbine 2 provided with an inlet 5 and outlets 6. The area of opening of the inlets 5, 7 may be variable and additional outlets 15 may be provided from the turbine 2. The craft has fins 11 and the outlets 10 are located to allow a flow over them. Additional inlets and outlets 14 may be provided on the craft.
