Abstract
821,264. Supporting conductors; insulators. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd., and BRITISH TRANSPORT COMMISSION. Dec. 4, 1957 [Dec. 5, 1956], No. 37227/56. Class 36. A cantilever structure for a railway overhead electrification system comprises an inclined strut 2, a tie member 1 and a registration arm, the latter being in two parts 3 and 16. The strut, tie, and at least the inner part 3 of the registration arm are of resin-bonded glass fibre in the form of a rod or tube and are provided at their inner ends 4, 10 and 14 with means for attachment to a supporting structure 6, the strut being provided at its outer end with means 8 for attachment to the outer end of the tie-rod and to a catenary, whilst the inner registration arm has means 17 and 18 for attaching the outer registration arm which has at its free end means 19 for attaching a contact wire. The means for attaching the various members preferably consist of clamps arranged to pivot either horizontally, vertically or both to enable adjustments in the height and position of the catenary and contact wires, relative to the track, to be effected. The clamps may be formed to receive the ends of the rods or tubes which may be secured by compression, clamping or adhesives; alternatively, when tubes are used, the clamps may be adapted to be either inserted or moulded into the ends thereof. Suitable resins and methods of forming the structural members are described.
