Abstract
820,338. Steering vehicles. RECHERCHES ETUDES PRODUCTION R. E. P. Jan. 15, 1957 [Feb. 22, 1956], No. 1530/57. Class 79(5) In a steering control for a vehicle suspension (e.g. aircraft landing gear) having a " compass " linkage 1, 6 comprising a ball-and-socket or equivalent connection 7 between the arms 1, 6 of the linkage, and a universal joint 19, 20 between the arm 6 and a support on the vehicle, this support comprises a jack, the piston 10 of which is fixed while the cylinder 9 is movable and carries a rack 17 engaging with a pinion 18 serving to rotate the universal joint. Pipes 13, 14 connect chambers 15, 16 in the jack to a steering system including a fluid pressure source and steering controls. Shimmy damping is effected by small orifices (not shown) in the piston 10. Specification 412,191 [Group XXXII] is referred to.
