Abstract
817,070. Rotary pumps. TECHNICON INTERNATIONAL Ltd. Nov. 25, 1957 [Dec. 13, 1956; Aug. 5, 1957], No. 36733/57. Class 110(2). A multiple pump of the flexible tube type, Fig. 2, comprises a series of tubes T which are mounted as a unit in a platen 14 by members 42 engaging pins 44. The platen is mounted in a base 12 by a universal coupling 28, 30, 32, 34, 36 and is urged into engagement with the compressing mechanism 26 by springs 16. The compressing mechanism consists of a series of rollers mounted between sprocket chains 54 and is pivoted for retraction purposes to a bracket mounted on the base 12, see Figs. 3 and 6 (not shown). The compressing mechanism is held in its operating position by a releasable catch and is driven by the motor M through suitable clutch and reduction gear means, see also Fig. 7 (not shown). Movement of the member 26 into the operating position actuates the starting- switch of the motor. The tubes may be made of vinyl plastic and are of the same wall thickness irrespective of their internal diameters. In a modification, Fig. 11, the compressing mechanism is in the form of a cylindrical carrier 111 having a series of rollers 58<SP>1</SP> and the platen 130 is pivoted at 140 about the frame and is releasably secured thereto by a pin 142, a pressure-relieving portion 146 being provided. Movement of the platen actuates a switch 102<SP>1</SP> to start the motor 104<SP>1</SP> so that the shaft 112 can be brought up to synchronous speed before the platen is fully closed against the tubes T. The rollers are mounted on spring-loaded cylinders 20.
