Abstract
815,108. Loose leaf binders. SOENNECKEN, A. Feb. 8, 1956 [Feb. 8, 1955], No. 3987/56. Class 146(1) A loose leaf lever arch file is operated by a single arm lever .and a crank disc pivoting about a fixed pin and having a shoulder on one side and a crank pin at its free extremity, to engage the offset section of the arched posts, the crank pin being moved downwardly by a cam on the lever on a first downward movement to a locking position past the dead centre of the crank disc, where the offset section is held with the posts closed and the crank pin being moved back past the dead centre, to release the offset section to open the posts, on a further downward movement of the lever, by a pawl on the lever engaging the shoulder on the crank disc. The file has the usual base 1, fixed pins 2 (not shown) and arched posts 4 pivoted in lugs 3 by the bar 5 whose central part 6 is offset and pressed upwardly by a spring 7. The disc 10 is pivoted at 9 to an upstanding lug 8 and the crank pin 11 has a roller 12 to engage the offset part 6 and a narrow roller 13 for engagement with the cam plate 24 on the lever 18. The lever 18, with finger grip 17, is pivoted at 16 to an upstanding lug 15 and is pressed upwardly by a spring 19 round pin 16, till lever 18 engages a stop 23 on the lug 15. The spring 19 engages the base 1 and a bent arm 21 on the pawl 22 pivoted to the lever 18 at 20, the pawl 22 engaging a shoulder 14 on the disc 10 in the closed position of the file, shown in Fig. 1. On movement of the lever 18 in this position, the disc 10 is rotated till the pin 11 has moved through the dead centre, when the spring 7 raises the offset part 6 together with the pin 11 and disc 10 to the open position shown in Fig. 2. On downward movement of the lever 18 in this position, the cam part 24 presses the pin 11 downwards to the position of Fig. 1 while the pawl 22 rides past the shoulder 14, the pawl 22 springing into the shoulder gap when the spring 19 returns the lever 18 to its uppermost position.
