Abstract

<PICT:0809430/III/1> Pottery slip and similar suspensions of solids in liquids are freed from air in an apparatus consisting of supply tank 10 and receiving tank for de-aired slip 11 connected by pipes 16 and 17 to an evacuated tank 12 mounted at a higher level. The vacuum maintains both pipes full of slip, and the supply pump 15 forces slip continuously through the vacuum tank into the receiving tank. The inlet at the top of pipe 16 is preferably provided with a jet which projets a spray of the liquid on to a rotating disc 18. Internal vanes 22 may be provided to act as weirs. The jet and rotating disc may be replaced by perforated pipes, spraying the liquid against the walls.
