Abstract

789,658. Gravity separation apparatus. HARTLEY, C. J. Aug. 22, 1956, No. 25612/56. Addition to 700,940. Class 111. A circular settling tank 10 has scrapers, in the form of two curved blades 29 oppositely arranged and joined by a blade 31, suspended from a rotating cross bridge 20 so that sludge settling in the tank is directed inwards from the periphery and outwards from the centre into an annular path of the point of convergence and is deposited into sumps or wells 34 from where it is withdrawn by pipes 37 to a common receiver 38. Two sets of blades may be used as shown in the Figure. In a modification the cross bridge 20 carries a suction pump, which may be of the type described in Specification 685,544, having a pipe extending downwards and forward of the blade 31 for withdrawing the sludge in which case the sumps 34 are omitted. The floor of the tank 10 may be flat or may slope inwardly on either side to the point of convergence of the blades.
