811,168. Treating solids with liquids. DIAMOND ALKALI CO. July 18,1955 [July 21. 1954], No. 20750/55. Class 82(1) In an apparatus and method for storing and handling a slurry of a soluble salt, solution is withdrawn from a point between the surfaces of solution and slurry via a means (12) within the storage vessel (2) attached to a support (float 16) maintained in position by the liquid level (10), whilst means (nozzles 34) are provided for directing a fluid stream into the slurry near the bottom of the vessel in a direction away from the surface of the liquid to maintain the slurry in readily dispensable condition. As described, the float 16 carries the open end of the pipe 12 which is .pivoted at 14; slurry of a salt in saturated solution is introduced by means 8 which may be of the type described in Specification 774,249 [Group XII]; fluid, e.g. water and/or vapour with or without air or other gas, e.g. steam is introduced through the pipe 30 and the downwardly directed nozzles 34 each with rubbersleeve check valves 40 (Fig., VI, not shown); saturated solution is drawn off by pump 44 and delivered via valve 50. When more slurry is needed in tank 2, valve 50 is closed and saturated solution is pumped via valve 52 and pipe 53 to mix with dry salt (e.g. soda ash, supplied via pipe 57 under suction set up by pump 54) in the slurryforming means 8. The temperature is controllable by admission of steam at 34.
