Class 108(3) A vibration-absorbing device comprises a pair of members 6, 5, one within the other, and a plurality of separate, rubberlike blocks, balls or the like 11, compressed between the members 5, 6, and located by depressions 13 in either or both members 5, 6. As shown on the right hand side of the Figure, .the recesses 13 are formed in the member 6 and the blocks 11 are each carried by a metal packing 10 which is. riveted or bolted at 12 to the member 5- The latter is in the form of a strap by which, when it is drawn into position on assembly, the blocks 11 are placed under pre-compression. In an alternative arrangement, (not shown), the metal backing 10 may be continuous and common to all the blocks 11. Two or more of the blocks 11 may not be attached to the strap 5. In the construction shown on the left hand side of Fig. 1, the blocks are in the form. of the balls 17 and are located by recesses 16, 18, in the strap 5 and the member 6 respectively. The recesses in either thestrap 5 or the member 6 may be replaced by a circumferential groove. The balls 17 may be joined together by ties of rubber. The member 6 may be a ring carried by the centre bearing of a transmission shaft or a motor vehicle.
