Abstract

570,625. Corve axle-boxes. BROOK, SEN., G. S., BROOK, JuN., G. S., and SUTCLIFFE, B. H. Oct. 19, 1943, No. 17155. [Class 12 (i)] An axle-box for pit tubs and the like comprises a steel housing 1 with vertical members 3 and a detachable wearing-block 5 interlocking therewith, the block 5 being the only wearing part. The housing consists of a base-plate to which the members 3 are welded, as at 4, the members being connected by a bolt 12. The block 5 has extension lugs 6, 7 embracing the base-plate, lug 6 having ears 8 which take under the members 3 where they project beyond the base-plate. The block has an axle groove 9 comprising arcuate portions connected by a small, central, flat portion to allow the axle 10 to roll slightly. The groove 9 has longitudinal and transverse grease channels 11.
