Class 44 A casement window includes an internal fastening therefor, comprising two bevelled or hook-shaped members which engage automatically when the casement sash is closed, one of the members being secured upon the sash towards the same side as a latch for the window and the other on a corresponding position upon the window frame with a cover or shield to prevent release of the fastening from the exterior of the window as by the use of a looped cord or other device introduced from above. As shown, a metal plate i having a bevelled edge i<SP>1</SP> is attached to a window sill or window frame and co-operates with a gravity controlled catch k enclosed in a housing j secured to the inner face of a window sash a directly above the plate i. The catch k is provided with a tail piece m accessible from the open end of the housing j for releasing the catch from the plate i only from the inside of the building the housing being provided with a cover j<SP>1</SP> and side cheeks j<SP>2</SP>. The catch is formed with flanges o which loosely engage recesses in the side cheeks of the housing. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown) the sash is provided with a hook member which engages a gravity controlled catch enclosed in a housing attached to the window sill or frame. In both arrangements the catch may alternatively be spring controlled.
