Abstract

841,391. Treating carded webs. CARDING SPECIALISTS (CANADA) Ltd. July 16, 1958 [Nov. 26, 1957], No. 36777/57. Class 120(1). Cotton fibres are passed from the doffer of a carding engine through ironing rollers followed by further rollers that exert a drafting action. From the doffer 10, the carded web passes between smoothly ground ironing rollers 24, 26 that may be heated and may be provided with scraper blades. To compensate for deflection under pressure, these rollers may be slightly convex or may be arranged with their axis slightly inclined as described in Specification 697,106. From the rollers 24, 26, the web passes to conventional drawing-off or calender rollers 16, 18 that rotate with higher surface speeds than the ironing rollers 24, 26 to produce the drafting effect. Two or more pairs of ironing rollers may be used employing successively increasing surface speeds. In an alternative form, an ironing roller may have several rollers pressed against it.
