901,632. Carding-engines. DAIWA BOSEKI KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Dec. 9, 1958, No. 39737/58. Class 120 (1). A carding machine has a rotary suction element mounted adjacent a taker-in and main cylinder, the suction element having a perforated surface within which is located a stationary vacuum box connected to the suction side of an exhaust fan. The suction element may be in the form of a cylinder 4 clothed with sawtooth wire and having perforations in its periphery through which air may pass to an adjustable vacuum member 15a, A movable plate 11 and damper 18 may be adjusted to arrange suitable air currents. A modification has no lower cover 14 but provides the cylinder 4 with a mote knife and two vacuum members. Alternatively, a mote knife and undercasing grid may be arranged under the cylinder 4. It is stated that the transfer of fibres is carried out even if the peripheral speed of the cylinder 4 is less than that of the taker-in 3, which may rotate faster than the carding cylinder 5.
